Choose My Place

How we rank places

We rank places using the things you told us matter. We compare your budget with the typical price of your chosen property type in each area, and, if you selected a broadband need, we also consider how widely that level of broadband is available. If broadband data isn't available for an area, we won't assume that its broadband is better or worse than elsewhere. We'll rank it using the information we do have.

"No preference" has no effect on ranking. For each option below, we look at the percentage of homes in an area that can access the stated Ofcom availability measure.

If you choose…We compare availability of…
Everyday use — browsing, email, streaming and general household use≥30 Mbps broadband
Working from home & streaming — video calls, streaming and several connected devices≥100 Mbps broadband
Heavy household use — several people working or streaming at once and frequent large downloads≥300 Mbps broadband
Highest capacity — lots of simultaneous use and you want the fastest widely available connectionsGigabit-capable broadband

These descriptions are ChooseMyPlace guidance to help you select an option; they aren't Ofcom recommendations or minimum speeds required for those activities. Broadband figures show availability in an area, not the speed or reliability you will receive at a particular home.
